Development activities in
Kerala Ports.
Government of Kerala has decided to develop six Non-Major Ports in the state
through PPP mode. The Ports are Azhikkal (Kannur Dist.), Beypore (Kozhikode
Dist.), Ponnani (Malappuram Dist.), Alappuzha, Kollam and the major project
of Vizhinjam international sea port.
Azhikkal
Government has appointed M/s .Deloitte as the consultant to prepare DFR and
RFP for developing Azhikkal port through PPP.
Beypore
Government has appointed M/s. Consulting Engineering Services as the
consultant to develop Beypore Port through PPP. M/s. Consultant Engineering
Services has submitted the DFR and RFP for Beypor Port.
Ponnani
Government has decided to develop Ponnani Port under SWISS challenge method
and M/s Malabar port Pvt. Ltd. is appointed as the developer for Ponnani
Port.
Alappuzha
Government has appointed M/s Deloitte as the consultant to develop Alappuzha
port into a Marina and Cargo Port through PPP. The consultant has submitted
the Final DFR and RFP documents for the two projects.
Kollam
M/S Deloitte is appointed as the consultant to develop Kollam Port into an
all weather port. M/s Deloitte have submitted the final DFR and RFP
documents for the development of Kollam Port and it is under consideration
of the Government.
Vizhinjam
This Port is being developed as a major international port and transshipment
terminal. Land acquisitions for rail and road connectivity started. IFC is
the consultant to the project.
Coastal shipping
The non-major ports in Kerala are likely to increase the possibility in
coastal shipping and will ease the burden on road transportation apart from
savings in transportation/logistic cost.
In order to develop an implementable action plan for the development of
coastal shipping in Kerala, Government appointed a consultant.
